Hong Kong

My novel travels to many places in China, mainly to the province of Sichuan (Chengdu), Shanghai and Beijing. There are two stops in Hong Kong. I was introduced to Hong Kong by Shui Ying, a wondeful woman living now in that city. She e-mailed me this beautiful 360-degree panoramic view over Hong Kong harbour

Hong Kong is a bridge between mainland China and the West. Last year Hong Kong retained its position as the freest economy in the world. In mainland China there is state capitalism with planned economy. Hong Kong is one of the two special administrative regions of the People's republic of China. Many of the 7 million residents of Hong Kong wish that mainland China wil become more like Hong Kong, while the regime in Beijing hopes that Hong Kong will become more like mainland China.  The city flower of Hong Kong is the Bauhinia.     Nice song about Hong Kong by Teresa Deng. She had one of the sweetest voices. When she sang it was so effortless like gliding in the air. One professor even described her voice as "seven parts sweetness, three parts tears". However here in Malaysia, Hong Kong has a bad reputation as a city of rude shopkeepers and sales people and of narrow streets and overcrowding.

      Thanks for visiting from Malaysia, who also has a wonderful singer following in the steps of Teresa Deng. She is Siti Nurhaliza and was named as the Voice of Asia. Like Teresa Deng she sings in several languages and is versatile. Check on YouTube her song "Falling in Love (offical video)" where she sings like a western singer, and her "Sonata Muslim Salju (SITI)" with different style.

    Wow, loved Shannon's walking tour and the music link. Do you know how Teresa Deng died? She appears very young! Thanks for all of that. I met a few people I didn't know before. :)

    Thanks for visiting, Victoria. Teresa Teng (Deng Lijun in Mandarin) died in 1995 from severe respiratory attack of asthma while on holiday in Thailand. She was 42.

    So sad! And so many over there have severe asthma. I have a friend from Malaysia and she still has it bad, though she lives here.

    I loved Hong Kong. My sister worked there at Disney there when they opened the park so we went to visit her there.
